Wiarton, Ontario

Wiarton is a community in Bruce County, Ontario, at the western end of Colpoys Bay, an inlet off Georgian Bay, on the Bruce Peninsula. The community is part of the town of South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario. [1]

Wiarton is known for the Wiarton Willie Festival, in February each year, when national and international media cover Wiarton Willie and his Groundhog Day prediction.[2]

Going to Punxsutawney

Step1
Make your travel and lodging reservations early if you’re planning to go to Punxsutawney to see Phil in person.
Step2
Check the official Groundhog Day Web site for up-to-date schedules for Groundhog Day activities.
Step3
Download a map of downtown Punxsutawney to find event locations.
Step4
Dress for the weather. There are no shelters available, though there is always a bonfire.
Step5
Arrive early. The grounds at Gobblers Knob open at 3 a.m.

If You Can’t Get to Punxsutawney

Step1
Attend a Groundhog Day party closer to home. Check your local newspaper and community Web site for events happening near you.
Step2
Hold your own Groundhog Day party. You can do it indoors and watch for Phil on television, or find your own critter prognosticator.
